If you are living with the lingering effects of trauma, you already know that simply talking about it doesn’t always bring relief. In fact, sometimes it just feels like reopening an old wound. That is where Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) steps in. EMDR for PTSD is a specialized, evidence-based approach designed to help your brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer hijack your present.

What Exactly is EMDR?

To understand how this works, it helps to look at the official definition provided by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA):

“Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.”

โ€” EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)

When you experience trauma, the memory can become “stuck” in your nervous system. You might experience flashbacks, hypervigilance, or a deep sense of dread. EMDR therapy helps your brain safely process these unhealed memories using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping, drawing or physical movements), addressing the root cause rather than just managing symptoms.

The Importance of Advanced Training

Not all EMDR therapy is the same. As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, I have gone far beyond the basic training requirements. I provide advanced consultation to other therapists learning this modality, which means my clients receive highly specialized, expert care tailored specifically to complex trauma. I am often referred clients by other EMDR therapists. As a consumer, you have a right to ask for training certificates to prove a therapist has the training they say they do. As part of EMDRIA, my credentials can be verified at www.emdria.org.

Investing in Specialized Care

Because true trauma recovery requires flexibility, I operate now (as of late 2026) as an out-of-network therapist. This means your treatment plan is dictated by your healing process, not an insurance company’s arbitrary session limits. That said, I continue to provide care for Part B Medicare Recipients on a limited basis.

While you pay for sessions upfront, I provide a detailed medical receipt called a superbill. You can easily submit this superbill to your insurance company, and if you have out-of-network benefits, you may be reimbursed for a significant portion of the cost. You can also typically use HSA or FSA funds for your sessions. I offer a free, out-of-network tool, called Thrizer and some of my client chose to utilize them instead (Thrizer fronts out-of-network clients part of the session cost).
